    Default "Remember Me"?

    FAQ says:

    1. What is 'Automatic Login'?
When you register (and also when you login using the form at the top of the screen), you will be given the option to 'Remember Me'. This will store your identity securely in a cookie on your computer. If you are using a shared computer, such as in a library, school or internet cafe, or if you have reason to not trust any other users that might use this computer, we recommend you do not enable this.

    2. How do I clear cookies?
You can clear all your cookies set by the forum by clicking the 'logout' link at the top of the page. In some cases, if you return to the main index page via the link provided and you are still logged in, you may have to remove your cookies manually.

    Q: Well that's dumb.
How do I "log out" WITHOUT CLEARING COOKIES?
    Not a profile option, even.
(Anticipated answer: Don't "logout"; just close the window/tab containing the discussion board.

Note: This appears to be a subtle variation in behavior versus the OLD forum, which apparently "remembered me" permanently, that is, from one log in/log off to the next log in. (Logging in from a secure site, i.e. home.)

If I wanted to clear cookies, apparently I would have had to do that through the browser.

The cookies are being cleared by a default system setting. It is a global setting that is either on or off, can't be changed by individual users.

As long as I don't "logoff" I won't be "forgotten" anyway!
So that being the case, what's the point to the "Remember Me" feature? Answer: It's obviously meaningless!

Remember me will remember you from session to session so you don't have to log on every time. If you don't select "remember me" then you will need to log on every time. It does exactly what it is supposed to do.

It is remembering your username and password, not just your username. If you never want to type your password in leave it checked.

The purpose of Remember Me is only relevant if you close the Window and return. It will "remember" you. If you log off then you will have to log in again because the cookie is deleted .

    Seems to work as designed.

Now I see. We are just having a disagreement about the term "session".

To my mind, if you haven't logged off, you have not terminated the session; the "session" is still there if you just re-open a tab/window to that "session"! Conversely, in order to terminate your "session" you must log off!

Strange definition of "session", but no matter, it is what it is. There is no need to continue this conversation. This conversation ends here!
