    Default H58 198 Curves 50 miles

Possibly headed to the UP for a 4 day motorcycle trip and we want to hit H58. Supposed to be a fantastic motorcycle road. 198 Curves in 50 Miles... My question is this, does it matter which direction you take as far as best views of the big lake etc...?

Is that the one thats follows right along the lake? Have you taken the road from Paradise up to Whitefish point?

Here's 2 options we are exploring for routes. One includes Copper Harbor and the other includes staying on Drummond island.

On your 2nd map you almost got it perfect, but at the far east you do not turn onto M28 off 129. You continue north on 129 3 miles to a rd. called 6 mile and turn left. this rd. has many names in Brimley but takes you into Brimley Just follow main paved roads. as you go thru Brimley the road changes to West Lake shore Drive. Look for Dollar settlement on map. follow that west and it turns into Curley Lewis Dr.. That will "T" into 123. Then North into Paradise. The Curley Lewis is a snowmobile trail like H58 in the winter know as the North Country trail.

    Your planned route looks good.

Also one more small change to your 2nd map that I would make is leaving Detour Village you are on North Caribou Lake rd. that is good, then you hit 48 north. at the point 48 north makes a sharp turn left, change that and go straight on Raber Rd. follow that into Rabor staying north and rd. turns into Gogomain rd. heading north, then it turns left in a curve taking you west to Pickford. turn right (north) onto 129 until 6 mile rd. as mentioned above. Way nicer roads, way more fun on a bike. Just got home last night from this eastern UP trip. I did a bunch of research on these roads.

Note: this is a huge trip for 4 days. You may want to add a day to actually see stuff.

X2. I've actually run both on a bike and I think the road mentioned above is better than H-58

Thanks for the tips and yes I was debating how about the distance each day. Mileage it seems about right, but yea need to stop enjoy some things.

Any opinions on Copper Harbor vs. the Drummond Island route? We weren't making reservations and going to wing it. See any issue with this on Drummond Island or Copper Harbor?

    Heres some more info http://www.motorcycleroads.us/roads/mi_curley.html
Were are your planned evening stops? Cedarville has a nice motel with provisions accross the street. food next door. I stayed at the Driftwood in St. Ignace. They are MSA commercial members and biker friendly.

Where the pins are on the map s where we potentially staying, but not set in stone.

Would love to see Copper Harbor and Brockway Mtn. in the summer, but yet Drummond island seems pretty cool.

I would do Copper Harbor over Drummond anyday. Mackinaw City and Island is a better choice. but no motorcycles on Mackinaw Island. Peddle bikes. lol still fun!

Another vote for Copper Harbor, the ride up the Keweenaw is alot better than Drummond, its is a big ride for 4 days if you are gonna do much many stops, we did it last fall in 5 from southern Mi. and ran approx. 300 mile days but did a complete loop of the Yoop. The eastern half of H58 has the most curves but its a nice ride the whole way you wouldn't want to ride just part of it

I guess I kind of mis-stated. Its really 5 days and 4 nights. We leave Friday afternoon and return Tuesday. The biggest day is just over 300 miles. 3 days are more around 200 miles.

H-58 from Munising to GM is great but don't continue on it to Paradise as it turns to gravel

When you get into the Yoop find a UP Cruising guide they are packed full off info on the best roads, hotels, food things to see and such if you aren't leaving for a week or so you can order one on line its kinda like a trail map for motorcyclists, there are a lot of great roads in the Yoop.

Anything east of Grand Marais is gravel, from the west, you turn on 77 in Grand Marais and go south to Seney turn on M28 east, Turn on 123 in Newberry to go to Paradise/Tahquamenon Falls, both 77 and 123 are nice roads

123 in and Out of Paradise is paved and in good shape. the gravel road mentioned is if you go east out of Grand Marais. H 58 will bring you into Grand Marais you take 77 south out of Grand Marais. unless you're heading west then you would go north on 77 into Grand Marais and then take H 58 to Munising.

from paradise you have to drop down to Newberry .on 123 then you go west on 28 To 77 North that will take you into Grand Marais. no paved shortcut between Grand Marais and paradise you have to drop down and go through Newberry.

Just got home after 5 fantastic days. Put on 1356 miles and had maybe an hour of rain the whole trip! Thanks for all the advice!
