No one has reported the snow fall in Hoback area. Locals up at the hot springs report 10-15 feet. Once again only got off trail 300 yards.

    Fireworks,
I live in Victor, ID and Teton Village. Been out here for 8 years...transplant from Chicago suburbs.

I ride 2-3 days per week...typically Friday and Saturday. But also have time during the week.

    We should hook up sometime

MAN you guys have it good LOL
I used to ride in Pinedale, a way lesser known area, south of jackson
once north /north east of town, snow was always great and few if any folks really riding
BUT been about 10 yrs now since I been there, so thing maybe changed?

but MT"S /elevation and snow, got to love how reliable they make snow seem to us flat landers that BEG for a few inches just sop we can ride?
and here in PA< I have yet to have ride able snow this yr, and just one ride last yr??
Terrible snow conditions for a snowmobiler !!

keep the pic's coming guys, at least they help some !

mrbb- Ride into Blind Bull from Horse Creek past Bondurant. Also, have rode Cora north of Pinedale too. Elk Ridge, Bacon, Tosi and Pass Peak. Yep, great riding with no traffic. Blew a chain on a new Free Ride. Left it in the woods overnight. And then we got this guy from MN. Can you tell.

    HAHA
I rode all them pl;aces out there you listed
used to stay at the Green river guest ranch, rented cabin off them and rode from there to about the Line Shack
    and in between
actually knew the guy that owned the Elk ridge lodge(sold in about 2008) owner was
a friend of mines neighbor in West Virginia , yrs back,
funny how you can run into people you know when traveling!
only riders I ran into out there last time,w ere two Amish brothers from Lancaster PA too,
sadly the one ran into the other one and killed him, was there with the state when search and rescue had to go recover him> , , sure wasn't a fun thing to watch
brother came off a jump and other rider was driving below the jump and got hit in the head while sled was airborne, like a close line hit, to the head!
kinda why I remember that trip as much as I do I think

that and well, conditions were about the best I rode in out there
sure wish it was closer or I had more budget to live off LOL

found this, maybe you seen it before, its out there, THINK this is from about 2006 or so, so going back a away LOL
but keep the pic's coming, sure more than em appreciate them!
I'm yet to even get to ride on snow this yr here, zero snow this yr really here or any place under 12+ hrs from me
    crappy winter again??

Fireworks, after reading through this thread am I understanding correctly that you have a basecamp set up and are guiding people to ride the area? I am pretty much down to zero people to ride with because of schedule conflicts, all my buddy's have kids in travel spots and so forth. We made a trip to tog a few years back and I am really wanting to get back out and ride the area. Sounds crazy, but I may be making the trip solo, so I am looking at some options and came across this thread. Thanks, Dave

Hey Dave, I am staying in Jackson and riding the area with locals and friends that come out to visit. Not guiding. Gotta be careful with that word. When were you thinking of coming out? Will you drive or fly and rent sled?

Gotcha on the guiding part, forgot about the regs. out there. I would drive out and bring own sled, I have a '15 M8 153. Kind of just a pipe dream at the moment, just looking for somebody to tag along with if I were able to make it happen. Would be looking to ride during the week for a few days.

I've been wantin to go this year too but none of my friends can make it. When were u planning on going out Dave. Looks like you'd have to drive right through my neck of the cornfields to go. I could drive. Have new truck and trailer and willing to go whenever.

Mike I am pretty flexible on when, as far as days, I would start driving on a Monday or Tuesday and would want to be home on the following Monday at the latest. I would time my drive to go through Chicago in the middle of the night to avoid traffic. I have a 13 f150 crew cab, can sleep in back seat and a 25' inline. Can fit 4 in if ya (69) them. I would probably bring my 142" crossfire for a backup sled. However, looking at the conditions that sled would probably be useless out there. I am gonna do some more thinking about this, really having winter withdrawals as I love ice fishing too, and the ice is crap again this year on Saginaw bay where I fish. As far as riding skill goes, I can hold my Ok out there, but I am no sled neck or Chris Burandt. Never really tried the real tight and technical tree stuff. More into just riding some real good powder and some good open bowls with moderate climbs. Can side hill and carve pretty pretty good. The trees just scare me as it would suck to get out there and total a sled. The way they're built now, it doesn't take much.

Ride where I ride and you can choose to wreck stuff in tight trees or enjoy open tree runs, open bowls and meadows.

Sounds like I'm in the same boat as a few others. Riding buddies all have kids etc. and no one can make it out. Looks like we will be flying out in a few weeks from PA. We will probably stay at Tog but I'm open to other areas. Firworks where or who should we look up for rentals and a place to stay?

If you stay at tog, they have rentals and guides/package deals. You could also check out Brooks Lake Lodge, they do the same with rentals and guides, but from what I know they are usually booked up pretty far out. I believe there's a place in dubois as well. Can't remember the name, might of been fireside lodge. These recommendations are all SE of Jackson. For simplicity, tog lodge is your best bet. They will pick you up at the airport and shuttle you to the lodge.

Brooks Lake Lodge is an excellent choice. However, they are pretty booked for feb and early march. Give them a call, you never know, they might have had a cancelation. I have been out there twice this season. Crooked Creek Is another option out there. Maybe that is the place you are referencing in Dubois.

Hi all! we're heading to Alpine on tuesday and were wondering if someone who is local could help us figure out the weather for the area. It says its raining. does that mean only in the valleys? Or is the snow going to be shot everywhere? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Happy New Year Ezra! Been a while since we chatted on JD. Are you planning on riding Idaho as well? I will be staying with my back home friends in Pinedale riding up Horse Creek. Only 11.5 miles by trail to Blind Bull versus Gray's River trail 29.

Hey Fireworks. Thanks for the info and pics. I think I’ve talked to you on here in years past. Is Tog the tourist trap you’re referring to? We’re heading out Fri. We have a group of 5 and self navigate the last few years. We stay in a cabin west of Tog, but ride that general area. How are snow conditions in general now...and do you recommend we look for a different riding area? Thx

Snow levels in Tog have caught up to other riding areas west and south. In the last week they have had some decent snowfall to cover up the holiday week rush. Doesn't look like you have any snow in the forecast through Monday with highs just below freezing. If there were other areas with epic snow i would suggest them. But so far pretty lame year unless your out here right after a dump. Another fatality by Leidy lake. A lot of corn snow below.

I see you do it right!! You must have done some research into best long term stay options, was motel option better than doing cabin rental? Can you recommend area or places that is best suited for long term rental? Thanks!! J

Been riding Wydaho since '98. IMO, best rental is the Virginian Lodge Motel in Jackson. The lodge has the popular local breakfast restaurant, bar. liquor store. laundromat and barber shop right on site. $800/month. No sales tax because you are signing a 30 day contract. Draw back is you have to rent for 4-5 months in order to get that rate. However, they do have great weekly rates. Rooms are dated but carpet new and rooms always clean. No musty smell.

Riding areas are all within an hour.
