Gauntlet fastening

Last year we had an accident while occurred while we were stopped allowing oncoming sleds to pass, my soon to be wife and I both use gauntlets on our sleds which are somewhat rigid, there is a elastic band that is supposed to keep it on end of handle bar but those who use them Im sure know how well this works, not sure but we are assuming that she bumped the gauntlet which caused the throttle lever to depress and we all know how quickly sleds accelerate and the accident occurred. My question is... does anyone have any recommendation of retaining the gauntlet to end of handle bar? to help and hopefully prevent this from potentially happening again, and also keep the gauntlet up so not having to pull it up when you put your hands into them. we currently have a 2017 Eltigre 8000 and a 2009 F8, and are using Arctic Cat Gauntlets, any recommendations would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

I have Skinz hand protector/hand warmers on my sleds. Had to replace end fasteners. Go to either your local auto body shop or auto parts store. Ask for push button tabs used to old in plastic fenders on cars. You’ll have to bring current one in as they come in various sizes. Works like a charm. My sleds are skidoo renegades.

Thanks LakeVilla, I had heard of doing that, do you then just perforate a small hole through end of gauntlet and corresponding hole in end of handle grip and push the fastener in and through? would make sense and I know they make ones of varying strengths, and I don't believe there are any wires in end of grip I need to worry about, I would just lose them but with certain health issues I haven't found any gloves that keep my fingers from feeling they are frozen solid, I still wear full mitts inside of my gauntlets.

I have a pair of Polaris gauntlets where the plastic that goes into the end of the bar is broke off - this sounds like a good solution!

That's how the Ski-doo gauntlets are held on, with a plastic push dart that goes into the end of the grip.

FYI these plastic darts are also used to hold a lot of older snowmobile windshields on, so you can find them at snowmobile dealers as well as auto supply places. Because I use them on sleds and both my vehicles, I bought an assortment of around 150 of them off Amazon for like $20.

Go with the Powermadd gauntlets...hands down best/safest on the market.

I only need "Mechanix" gloves under the gauntlets.
Seems like it is only a small wind issue with gauntlets that the thin gloves cover.

I have gauntlets for my wife's sled. I haven't used any on my sled in years. My hands don't seem to get cold. I do like the ski doo ones I saw at the snowmobile shop and thought about buying some for rare case I do get cold hands. They scare me though, I've known two people that got the throttle stuck due to the gauntlet grabbing the throttle and both crashed.

I am not an over the top Klim guy but the gauntlets they have are very good I had a set of the Polaris gauntlets and they where very stiff and kept breaking the end post that pushed into the bars. The Klim ones have a much larger push pin that goes into the end of the bar and the gauntlet is much more flexible. Not sure how your kill switch is mounted but I moved mine inward on my new sled and had just wrapped tape around it on my old sled and used the key to turn it off and on.

Gauntlets to me have always been what early on were called hippo hands. An insulated fabric that went half way up your forearm./??no?
These work great....you can fold them up like a pair a jeans if you like them shorter

Yes, what more do you need?? If you don't need them roll them up and tuck away somewhere.when its 20 below no one cares if they look cool.

snowbuilder, yes those are exactly what I am referring to and as garageguy stated who cares if they look cool or not, I just need to keep my fingers warm and as I had stated I even wear a pair of castle fingered mitts inside of them as well, from some of the responses I am going to look into the Klim brand as they actually have an anchor that goes into end of handle bar, I hate to admit but haven't even looked at sleds yet but seem to remember they have hooked handle bars. Just want a way to anchor to limit movement to hopefully prevent what happened last year from potentially happening again.

I've been using Powermad's for years, won't ride without them below zero. For me, has no affect on my riding, and I don't care what they look like if I'm warm.

I should add, since euphoric1 asked, I put a couple zip ties in a loop, on those stretchy loops, to extend them a little more so the guards don't interfere with the controls. The newer powermad gauntlets are like a hard shell, and are much bigger, so they probably don't pose the same issue.

xcr440, I just looked at those, do you use those in combination with the rigid hand guard? as shown on website? because I can see how this set up would keep hands out of wind completely and more importantly keep controls completely free and exposed

No hand guards for me - I find these gauntlets do just fine in protecting my hands, like a hand guard.

Of course, I have nothing when I take them off, above zero, but I've never really had the need for hand guards. Though I do ride off trail some, I try to avoid things that could whack me in the mitts!

Not sure how you can fool proof the fabric gauntlets from creating a possible throttle blip. Just need to be conscious of your set up you choose to ride with.

Klim does use the push dart style but they are much larger than the Polaris ones and the pins and gauntlets are both more flexible so they are less prone causing the pins to break. They still hold there shape but don’t limit movement.

Do those work well with the factory handlebar hooks?

I need something, my finger tips have been frostbitten to many times and I cannot keep them warm on the cold days. I was planning on buying the full gauntlets but am concerned about moving my hands in and out of the gauntlets, and also on the warm days removing them so my hands don't sweat.

I am going to definitely give these a try, look very similar to the powermadd ones xcr440 posted about however don't know how open they will stay unless used in conjunction with rigid hand guards and these look like they will, I will be ordering a couple sets of these. Thank you again for your input!

Cold Guards stay open just fine. However they can rotate, a little, if not really tight to the bar. Cold Guard offers an anti-rotation device.

Or, with a little creativity, they can be used in conjunction with hand guards. Keeps them solid as a rock.





I leave them on permanently.
Easy in, easy out, do not get in the way even when standing.
Can be bumped and then returns of original shape.
Not as warm as standard fuzzy, tight fitting gauntlets. However, we have road all day at -10f with nice warms hands.
Can't beat the Cold Guards for ease of access and wind protection.
