View Full Version : 1st ride based out of KRUPP'S ALL SEASON RESORT Dec 19 20 21

12-22-2008, 12:12 PM
Man oh man, two weeks ago I stayed at John's and rode, and this past weekend I was up with the fella's, and the snow was deeper yet, and with a pretty good base underneath. We had a blast as usual.

We arrived real early Friday morning, 3 am, no, we were suppose to be there around 11 pm Thursday night, don't ask. So we were up and ready to go around 10 am, so we headed out to the secret play area, that my friends the Minnesotans ripped up a week and a half before, but, it was pretty much all snowed in again anyways. http://www.johndee.com/discuss/clipart/happy.gif

Joe's 12 year old son Emanuel on the 02 700 RMK. He can ride I tell ya! Most of the time he was right behind me, all 3 days, and he only got stuck about 3 times. Lance on the other hand...http://www.johndee.com/discuss/clipart/happy.gif

Joe's first stuck

Eman, AKA "ROOSTER". Troy from the Lac La Belle Lodge said it best after Eman roosted on my brother. "He must have used a 1/4 tank of gas on that roost!" LMAO!

Joe's first oops of the year.

Lance was leading and headed into the woods when the logging road dead ended, a true boondocker.

Kim and I waiting for the fellas to come back out.

Here comes Joe.

Here come Lance and Eman.

Break time, did not head down the powerline, a little to early in the season to head down that one, lots of stumps and such down that way.

Before we headed back to Krupp's to meet up with John, we had some small carnage, a bent shock on Joe's RMK, and my brother bent his steering arm on his M AGAIN! Lance decided he was going to take a nap while we rode with John, he worked his butt off on Thursday finishing up things so he could have Friday off. He his a sprinkler fitter. So, Joe jumped on Lance's sled, and we rode.

Break time with John.

On Saturday we headed to John's, got there later than expected, had to stop at Dan's Polaris and pick up a shock for Joe, and then Kim and Lance stopped in at M@M to get a new steering arm for the M. I tell ya what, John's shop rocks! Warm, with a kick butt stereo to listen to as we changed out the shock on Joe's sled. A lot better than doing it outside in the cold!

Gassing up at the Vansville bar.

View of the snow covered cliffs.

At the Lac La Belle Lodge, we had a quick lunch inside the Bear Belly Bar and Grill, then hooked up with Troy the owner and his son Zach for an afternoon ride. I must say, Troy's wife must be a very understanding person, the bar was full, she was waitressing, helping bar tend, and keeping an eye on the store, and Troy and Zach skip out to show us around! A big thank you to Cathy for letting that happen. LOL.

By the time we left, John's leg was hurting pretty good, so he headed home. John, as you already know, boy did you miss out! Sorry, had to rub it in a little bit. http://www.johndee.com/discuss/clipart/happy.gif You could see the dejection on John's face as we parted ways.

One of my favorite pics of the trip. Untouched logging road, and mother nature's great snowmaker in the background, perfect!

My tracks

Umm, this was a pretty common occurance for Lance this weekend. LOL. He is a lot better rider normally. Maybe it was too much sleepy time on Friday afternoon? http://www.johndee.com/discuss/clipart/happy.gif

Troy's son Zach, I think he needs the nick name of Jackrabbit. Bouncing around all over the place, jumping everything in sight, carving up the snow, he is a very good rider too.

Break time.

Picture of the trail up there. Most excellent.

It was almost dark when we parted ways with Troy and Zach, Troy and his wife had a Christmas party to attend, so we headed back down to Krupp's. Thanks Troy and Zach for giving us the "untouched tour"! Trails were awesome all the way back down I might add! We even passed Richard Krupp as he was grooming north from Twin Lakes to Toivola. He had the front blade down, and making everything as smooth as silk.

Sunday was another great day to be riding.

Here comes Joe.

Getting closer.

Joe led us up into this ravine, saweet, hill climb time. I'm up top looking down on the fells.

Rooster stuck

Here is Joe with a delay of game due to a stump infraction, he is past the stump here, and trying to fanagle his way around this tree.

Joe getting turned around

Joe on the edge of dropping off into the bottom of a ravine. If he would have ended up down there, we still be trying to get him out. http://www.johndee.com/discuss/clipart/happy.gif

As Joe was getting turned around, I led the rest of us up where Lance is parked, the two track ended. So we had to drop down into a creek bed, follow that 20-30 yards, then make a sharp 90 degree turn up hill to get turned around, through some pines. We all made it with out getting stuck. Even Lance. LOL.

Duck Joe, duck!

More untouched

Break time

Back at Krupp's getting ready to go home.

Before we got back to the truck and trailer, we had a little incident at a beaver pond. I did not take any pictures though, to worried about other things. Let's just say that Lance almost went swimming, Joe and I both fell in up to our knees, and we had to bring one sled across the top of the beaver dam. http://www.johndee.com/discuss/clipart/happy.gif Good times for sure!

The last shot was from one of the roads in Keweenaw County that they are not plowing. It is a little north of Mohawk.

Ouch! Flogged again. *lol* I just tried to do a good thing by matting it down a bit for Lance so he wouldn't get stuck, and you wouldn't have to use that sno bunje on him again..., and again......, and again.•••••••*

Did ya get back to check out that other one we went to last year?

Pics are awesome. Can't believe how good things look up there this early in the season. Can't wait for the next trip.

12-22-2008, 06:02 PM
Scottiking, nope, wasn't you! Zach's seat is still at the upholstery shop.

Kris, you would have laughed your butt off at Lance this past trip, and he now has a 2" paddle on there! Did not get down to the other place you showed me, ran out of time, plus, there is a lot of rock in there, it needs a little more base to it yet. It is getting REALLY nice and deep in the woods now. http://www.johndee.com/discuss/clipart/happy.gif Are you guys heading up before the Ride In?

12-22-2008, 06:56 PM

Skylar - Planning on it. Erik, Dave, and Ryan are for sure headed up on the 4th. Not sure if I'll make that one as the wife, boys, and I will be coming back from New Years vacation on the 2nd. If I don't make that one, I'm gonna try and swing a quick weekend in sometime between then and the ride in.
